“Refugees want to stand on their own feet again. They have skills and talents and are eager for an opportunity to apply them meaningfully.”
The Refugee Teachers Programme, based at Potsdam University, is designed to help newcomers teach again within just 18 months. It helps refugees integrate in German society, by allowing them to establish deep social relations with the host society. Not only does the programme facilitate German language learning, it also trains newcomers to adapt to the German schooling system - which is inaccessible to foreign teachers.
