THE REFUGEES INTEGRATION SYMPOSIUM
On the 11th of January 2017, we hosted our first international Symposium, with over 200 guests as we discussed the topic of Refugees and their Host Communities: Unity Within Diversity. The central focus of our symposium was to explore how communities in the Netherlands have been involved with refugees; and how this has affected both parties integration into each other’s cultures.
In attendance were representatives of stakeholders who have a stake in refugees in the Netherlands, including, representatives from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) , International Organization for Migration (IOM), Integration Coordinator from the Municipality of Tilburg, Jordanian Ambassador to the Netherlands, Charge D’Affaires of the Lebanese Embassy to the Netherlands, Immigration Attaché to the Nigerian Embassy to the Netherlands, Immigration and Refugee Studies experts, students, concerned citizens from different professions, and numerous Foundations, NGOs, and volunteer groups.
At the end of the Symposium, many attendees attested to understanding the discussed topic even better, many others stated that they were fired up with a new zeal to do something new to encourage socio-cultural integration; this for us was the beginning of many success stories. Our facebook page and youtube channel, both have clips from this symposium; however, for a full record of the symposium, click on this link.
