ICR: Marshmallows and Guacamole

During the #IntegrationChatroom we will be tasting desserts and snacks from all around the world! Curious what you can expect?

Marshmallows

Did you know that the history of marshmallows dates back to ancient Egypt? They used the mallow root for making their candied delicacies for their gods, nobility and pharaohs over 2000 years ago. The Romans and the Greeks loved the mallow plant; they believed that brewed mixtures of the mallow sap cured soar throats and pains! The French changed the use of the mallow plant, during the 1800’s, from mainly medicinal to a candy consumed by adults. This is where the marshmallow as we know them today were born!

Guacamole

It is probably no surprise that this beloved avocado-dip stems from Mexico. But did you know the Aztecs already made guacamole in the 14th century? The ancient version of the dish was originally made with mashed avocados, chili peppers, tomatoes, white onions and salt. Nowadays we also include lime and cilantro, even though there are many variations to this delicious dip!

Join us on 13th March during the next Integration Chat Room (ICR) special edition to discover more about how connected we are through food that cuts across cultures and generations!
