ARE PART OF HUMANITY & WE CAN'T LEAVE THEM BEHIND.
In September 2016, the founder of Unity In Diversity (UID) attended the UNHCR Conference on Protection and resettlement of refugees which took place in Dublin, Ireland. During this conference, she asked a question about structures established by refugee agencies for community preparation prior to resettlement of refugees, giving the effects this may have on socio-cultural integration. The speakers at the conference attempted to provide a definitive answer; ultimately it was clear at this point, that there is a gap in the integration of refugees across the globe, and this gap is found in the socio-cultural dimension of integration.
Miracle returned to the Netherlands, and began a socio-legal research into the topic of integration, focusing her attention on socio-cultural integration; soon she was joined by a group of dedicated volunteers, with international backgrounds, some of which were either refugees, or had refugee backgrounds. Together they conducted interviews, across cities and villages in the Netherlands, including Hoogmade, Leiden, Utrecht, Tilburg, Gilze Rijn, Delft, and others.
Today, as a team, we are continuously inspired by courageous and optimistic refugees we have encountered; their strength and enthusiasm to socio-culturally integrate, coupled with the willing communities around us, we are confident in God that we will make greater impacts across the globe.
